Starting your free trial and managing your subscription

Start your free trial (in the app)

  1. In the Brilliant app, tap "Upgrade to Brilliant Max."
  2. Choose a plan: monthly ($9.99/month) or annual ($99.99/year).
  3. Tap "Start Free Trial." The app opens a secure checkout.
  4. Enter your payment details and confirm.

You now have Brilliant Max for that home, and your 30-day free trial has started.

Start from a Brilliant Control

You can begin from a Control too:

  1. On the Control, tap "Start Free Trial."
  2. The Control shows a QR code and asks you to finish on your phone.
  3. Scan the QR code with your phone camera to open the checkout page.
  4. Complete payment. Brilliant Max unlocks for that home.

About the free trial

  • 30 days free on both the monthly and annual plans.
  • A credit card is required up front. The trial converts to paid automatically at the end unless you cancel.
  • We send a reminder before your trial ends.
  • Annual subscribers can skip the trial to start the Faceplate Upgrade Program right away.
  • New subscribers can request a free Shelly door/window sensor at checkout. See "Your free Shelly sensor."
  • The free trial is once per home. If you cancel and later resubscribe on the same home, you will not get another free trial.

One subscription per home

Brilliant Max is tied to a Home. Anyone with access to that Home can use Max there. If you have more than one home, each home needs its own subscription.

Who can manage the subscription

The person who pays manages the subscription. Other members of the home can use Brilliant Max, but if they open subscription settings they will see a message to contact the subscription owner for billing changes.

Manage your subscription

Manage everything from the "Manage Subscription" button in the Brilliant app:

  • Update your payment method
  • Cancel

On a Brilliant Control, you will be directed to the Brilliant mobile app to make subscription changes. You also receive email receipts for your subscription. Your current status (trial, active, canceling, or not subscribed) also shows as a badge in the Settings list on the Home screen.

Update your payment method or switch between monthly and annual through the secure billing portal, which you open from Subscription Settings.

What Subscription Settings shows

  • During a trial: trial status, your trial end date, your plan, and a Manage Subscription button. On an annual trial it also shows your first charge.
  • On a paid plan: your plan, your next renewal date, and the last four digits of the card on file.
  • After you cancel: a "canceling" status with the date your access ends.
  • If your subscription is managed by a Pro: a message that your Pro manages it, without billing controls. See "For Pros."
  • If you are a home member who did not buy the subscription: a message to contact the subscription owner for billing changes.

How to cancel

You can cancel three ways: in the Brilliant app, by phone, or by email to support. However you cancel, your subscription stays active through the end of the current billing period and will not renew. When it ends, enabled Modes turn off. Brilliant Max does not offer refunds. You can resubscribe at any time.
