Presence Alerts

Presence Alerts gives you peace of mind while you are away. When Away Mode or Vacation Mode is running, it watches for activity in the home and raises an alert if something is detected.

In the Brilliant app, this is set up in the Presence Alerts section of Away Mode and Vacation Mode.

How it works

When the motion sensors in a Brilliant Control, a Brilliant switch, or a Shelly motion or door/window sensor detects activity, you have 30 seconds to enter your Brilliant PIN. If no PIN is entered in time:

  • All lights turn on for 30 minutes
  • The Brilliant alarm sounds (a Control shows a red Siren screen with a "Deactivate Mode" button)
  • Everyone in the home gets a push notification

While the alert is running, those devices stay in the alert state and are not controllable. The alert continues for 30 minutes or until you turn off the Mode. To stop it from a Control, tap "Deactivate Mode" and enter your Brilliant PIN. You get three tries; after three wrong entries there is a one-minute wait before you can try again.

Choosing which sensors are used for presence alerts

All Brilliant Controls, Brilliant switches, and Shelly motion or door/window sensor are automatically included. Customizing which sensors are included is coming soon.

Using Shelly sensors

Presence Alerts work with Brilliant Controls and switches on their own, and gets better coverage when you add Shelly motion and door/window sensors. At launch, Shelly sensors need to be within about 30 feet of a Brilliant Control to stay connected. See "Adding and using Shelly sensors."

Turning it on

When you set up either Mode, turn on Presence Alerts instead of a connected security panel. You can edit it any time.

Good to know

  • Presence Alerts is a self-monitoring feature that uses the devices in your home. It is not a security system.
  • The 30-second window is there so you can disarm with your PIN when you walk back in.
  • You can turn the Mode off from the Brilliant app without a PIN (the PIN is only required at a Control). So if someone is stopping by while you are away, you can disarm remotely, or share your PIN so they can disarm at the Control.
  • If you have a security panel integrated into Brilliant, Presence Alerts are hidden.
  • Presence Alerts uses motion sensors, so pets or people will set them off.
