Adding your IQ5 Panel to Brilliant

 

Brilliant works with the Johnson Controls IQ5 Panel. Once paired, you can see whether your security system is armed and arm or disarm it from any Brilliant Control in your home, or from the Brilliant app, instead of walking to the panel by the front door.

What You Need

  • A Johnson Controls IQ Panel 5. Older IQ Panel models do not support this integration.
  • One or more Brilliant Controls, updated to the latest software.
  • Your IQ panel serial number and a one-time code (OTP) from the panel.
  • Your IQ panel user code. You will need it to disarm.

How to Pair Your Panel

Pairing is done on a Brilliant Control, not in the app. You only pair once. Every Brilliant Control in the home, and the Brilliant app, can then control the panel.

  1. On your Brilliant Control, go to Settings
  2. Select Works With
  3. Tap Johnson Controls
  4. Your Control looks for IQ5 panels on your network
  5. Enter your panel's serial number
    1. Found on the back of the panel or under Settings>Advanced Settings>About>Hardware>System Serial Number.
  6. Enter the one-time code from the panel
    1. Found in the panel under Settings>Advanced Settings>Installation>Devices>WiFi Devices>3rd Party Devices>Get OTP
  7. Tap the Pair button on the IQ Panel
  8. The panel should then be discovered by Brilliant and added to the home. 
  9. Once connected, add the panel to a room in your home

 

What You Can Do with this Integration

See your system state: Your Brilliant Control and the Brilliant app both show whether the system is Armed Home, Armed Away, Disarmed, or Offline.

Arm and disarm from any room: Arm or disarm from any Brilliant Control in the home, or from your phone. This is useful in rooms a second keypad would never reach, such as a primary bedroom.

Reach security from the lock screen: Add a panel shortcut and a security widget to your Brilliant Control's lock screen, so you can check state and arm without opening a menu.

Add arming to a Scene: Include Arm Home or Arm Away as an action in any Brilliant Scene. A Good Night scene can turn off the lights, lock the doors, and arm the system at once. If a Scene disarms the system, you will be prompted for your panel user code when the Scene runs.

Arm automatically with Modes: Away Mode and Vacation Mode can arm your system automatically when everyone leaves. Modes are part of Brilliant Max.

 

Arming and Disarming

To arm: select Arm Home or Arm Away. No code is needed to arm.

To disarm: enter your panel user code. This is the code you use on the IQ panel, not your Brilliant PIN. You can disarm from a Brilliant Control, the Brilliant app, or the panel itself.

To switch between Armed Home and Armed Away: disarm first, then arm to the state you want. You cannot switch directly between the two.

 

What Is Not Included in This Release

This release covers pairing, system state, and arming and disarming. It does not include:

  • Partitions. Systems divided into partitions are not supported.
  • Arm countdown. Brilliant does not display the 60 second exit countdown. The panel still counts down and arms normally.
  • Sensor lists and individual sensor status. You see the overall system state, not a list of doors, windows, or motion sensors.
  • Sensor bypass. If a door or window is open, clear it at the panel before arming.
  • Alarm notifications. Brilliant does not alert you when an alarm is triggered. Continue to rely on Alarm.com for notifications and monitoring.
  • Cameras and video. No live view, no recorded footage, no motion notifications.
  • Sirens, doorbells, and smoke, fire, or CO alarms connected to the panel.

Remove or Re-add Your Panel

  1. On your Brilliant Control, go to Settings
  2. Select Works With
  3. Tap Johnson Controls
  4. Select your panel, then Remove

To reconnect, follow the pairing steps again with a fresh one-time code from the panel.

 

Troubleshooting

My panel shows Offline. Check that the IQ 5 panel is powered on and connected to your network. If the panel works normally on its own screen, remove it from Brilliant and pair it again.

My one-time code is not accepted. The code expires after a short time. Generate a fresh code on the panel and enter it right away. Confirm the serial number matches the panel you are pairing.

Arming did not work. The system must be in a ready state to arm. An open door, window, or other faulted sensor will prevent it. Check the panel, clear the fault, and try again. This release does not always explain why arming failed, so the panel screen is the fastest way to see what is open.

I cannot switch from Armed Home to Armed Away. Disarm first, then arm to the state you want. Switching directly between the two is not supported.

My code is not accepted when disarming. Use your IQ Panel 5 user code, not your Brilliant PIN. If the code works on the panel but not in Brilliant, remove the panel and pair it again.

I do not see Johnson Controls in Works With. Make sure your Brilliant Control software is up to date. Go to Settings > About to check your current version.

I paired the panel but one Control does not show it. All Controls in the same Brilliant home should show the panel. If one does not, confirm it is online and on the latest software.

I cannot see my sensors or cameras. Those are not part of this release. See What Is Not Included above.
