What happens when I invite a resident to a vacant unit?
When a resident is invited to a vacant unit on the Brilliant Command Center, an invite email is sent to the provided resident email address with a link to join the vacant unit (see example content for invite email below).
The resident has 7 days to join the unit after the invite is sent, after which the link to join the vacant unit expires. In order for a resident to join the unit after the link expires you will need to re-invite the resident on the Brilliant Command Center.
How do residents accept an invite to join a vacant unit?
When residents click the link on the email invitation to join a unit they are guided through a process to create a user account with Brilliant. Once the account is created, a resident can control the Brilliant Devices in their unit by logging in on the Brilliant mobile application using the email address for their user account.
What happens to a unit’s devices when a resident joins the unit?
When a resident joins a unit the Brilliant home and devices of the unit are automatically configured with the new resident configuration. In particular, the configuration is triggered when the user finishes registering their user account with Brilliant from the invite email.
The new resident transition includes:
- Changing the unit’s state to occupied. While the unit is in an occupied state:
- The resident is able to control their unit’s Brilliant devices by logging in to their user account on the Brilliant mobile application.
- Building Managers will not be able to access or control the unit through the Brilliant mobile application.
- Removing any settings applied to devices in the Brilliant home while the unit was vacant.
- Reconfiguring the devices in the unit’s Brilliant home with the default settings outlined in the new resident configuration.
The unit’s devices should begin reconfiguring within 30 seconds after the resident finishes registering their user account with Brilliant. The reconfiguration process normally takes around 3-5 minutes after the user joins their unit.
More information on the unit reconfiguration process that occurs during resident transitions can be found in our support article on Unit Reconfigurations.
What is the new resident configuration?
The new resident configuration is a set of default settings for Brilliant homes and devices specifically designed for newly occupied units. In particular, the new resident configuration is designed to emphasize the basic features of Brilliant Devices to new users.
The default settings for the vacant configuration are as follows:
- Brilliant Smart Control Display Set to Always On:
- The display for all Brilliant controls is set to always on.
- Light Motion Activation Set to Off
- All lights connected to Brilliant Controls and Switches in a unit do not activate in response to motion.
- Brilliant Display Motion Activation Set to On
- All Brilliant Control displays in a unit are set to activate when motion is detected and deactivate if no motion is detected for 10 minutes.
- Default Scenes Only
- Only the default scenes are available on the Brilliant mobile application and Brilliant Smart Control.
- For help with scenes, please refer to Brilliant's General FAQs under Scenes and Routines.
- Home Passcode Unset:
- The unit’s home passcode is unset. The new resident will be prompted to set a custom home passcode for the unit during their first login on the Brilliant mobile application.
